This article refl ects the personality of the poet from Algeciras, Jose Luis Cano, one of the architects of the journal Ínsula, which was a real bridge with exile an instrument for the reconstruction of liberal and reformist tradition. His monographs on “heterodoxies and pre-romantics” and on the “Spanish of two centuries” were a good example of this integration with the best of history. Poetic creation and reflection on the meaning of literature completed a life that should be remembered.
